Protesters in Naryn demand electricity benefits

A rally took place in Naryn town. Its participants demanded electricity benefits. Press service of the plenipotentiary representative of the government in the region reported.

According to it, the protesters asked to increase the volume of electricity at reduced tariff from 1,000 kilowatt-hours to 2,000. At present, from October 1 till May 1, residents of highlands pay 77 tyiyns per kilowatt-hour with consumption of up to 1,000 kilowatt-hours.

Nurlan Sadykov, deputy chairman of the National Energy Holding, spoke to the protesters. He told that benefits for Naryn residents had already been increased from 700 kWh to 1,000, and explained that 80 percent of the region’s inhabitants use not more than 1,000 kWh per month.

«Only those who have large rooms and those who use electricity for heating mainly exceed the limits," press service of the regional administration quoted Nurlan Sadykov as saying.

According to the government’s representative in the region, in 2016 the government allocated 46.3 million soms to cover the benefits of residents of highlands and remote areas.

Recall, on February 6, 2017 Naryn hosted a rally on the provision of benefits for electricity, following which the State Agency of Fuel and Energy Complex gave a response that their requirements would be taken into account in the formation of a medium-term policy on electricity and heating energy for 2018–2021.
