The US authorities impose ban on the transportation of electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, in cabin baggage. The ban will affect passengers arriving from eight Middle Eastern and North African countries. BBC reported.

An official statement was not made so far. It is expected that the US Department of Homeland Security will announce these measures today.

A US government source told BBC that the measure would affect nine airlines operating out of 10 airports.

But mobile phones and smartphones will still be allowed in carry-on luggage.

At the moment it is not completely clear to which airline this order will be distributed and how long it will remain in force.

Royal Jordanian Airlines tweeted on Monday that it would ban passengers from carrying on most electronics- excluding medical devices and mobile phones — to and from its North American flights, but latter the tweet was deleted.

The US Congress press office told Associated Press that the head of Homeland Security Department John Kelly had contacted congressmen over the past weekend and told them what security considerations were behind the restriction on the transport of electronics in the cabin of the aircraft. According to the US media, the directive was discussed within a few weeks.
