More than 8,000 facts of family violence registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2023
More than 8,000 facts of family violence were registered for 10 months of 2023 in Kyrgyzstan. MP Dinara Ashimova announced at a meeting of the Parliament.
According to her, there were such 8,620 cases in 2022.
«This is the official data. We all know that most of the victims do not apply to law enforcement agencies,» the MP added.
The deputies considered the bill «On amendments to some legislative acts of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of protection from family, sexual and gender violence».
As one of the initiators of the bill Dinara Ashimova added, the purpose of the document is to provide legal assistance to victims of domestic violence. The bill provides for a correctional program for the perpetrators of family violence to change their violent behavior.
One of the norms of the draft law stipulates that the perpetrator of family violence must temporarily leave the housing, which he shares with the victims. MP Mirlan Samyikozho asked for clarification of this norm.
«We had in mind such a point: after family violence is committed, victims usually move out to acquaintances or to crisis centers, and then the family collapses. We propose that the accused should leave the housing. Even when he returns, there will be a greater likelihood that the spouses will reconcile and the family will be preserved,» Dinara Ashimova explained.
Based on the results of the discussion, the parliament members adopted the bill in the first reading.
