Migrants to be deprived of Russian citizenship for refusal to participate in SMO
Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin proposes to deprive migrants of Russian citizenship for refusal to participate in a special military operation (SMO). He believes that the Russian Armed Forces should include foreigners who have obtained a Russian passport in their ranks.
«If you are not ready, being a citizen of the Russian Federation, to fulfill your military duty, it is necessary to make a decision to deprive such a person of citizenship,» Alexander Bastrykin said.
Earlier, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia has already voiced such a proposal. According to him, along with citizenship, migrants also obtain duties, including the obligation to undergo compulsory military service.
«In the conditions of the special military operation, the state stimulates foreign citizens to enroll in military service under contract, providing the opportunity to obtain Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure,» Alexander Bastrykin said.
According to him, in the first half of 2022 alone, more than 60,000 former residents of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan obtained Russian citizenship and, «therefore, not only the rights, but also the constitutional obligation to protect the country that received them.»
