European Commission: Actions of Elon Musk and X help Russian propaganda
The European Commission has published a report saying that Elon Musk’s actions as head of X (Twitter) social media help spread Russian propaganda.
Analysts say that in 2022, the audience and influence of Kremlin-backed social media accounts in Europe has increased. In early 2023, Elon Musk changed the rules of the media platform, which caused the expansion of the range of propaganda posts and comments.
The report says X would not have complied with those rules if the digital security law passed in the European Union on August 25 had come into effect earlier. The document also criticizes other social media — Instagram and Facebook, as well as Telegram messenger.
