Shutdown of Kloop: Criticism of authorities - inalienable right of any citizen
Reforma party issued a statement in connection with the initiative of the Bishkek Prosecutor’s Office to file a lawsuit to shut down Kloop.Media public foundation, which is better known as Kloop.kg website.
The political organization believes that this is another attempt to restrict freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan and violate the rights of citizens to receive information.
«Without shying away from anything, the reason for closure of the independent media outlet is indicated as criticism of the authorities. No former president has ever stooped to such lawlessness,» the text reads.
It is noted that criticism of the authorities is an inalienable right of any citizen, is not a violation of the law and can not be limited in any way.
«Not Kloop reporting, but the constant attempts of the authorities to stifle freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan and the independent press directly have a negative impact on society, which is losing hope for the future,» Reforma party concluded.
The party calls on all political forces, activists and ordinary citizens to protest against the shutdown of Kloop.
It was reported on August 28 that Bishkek prosecutor Emilbek Abdymanapov filed a lawsuit in court to liquidate Kloop.Media public foundation.
The lawsuit, in particular, states that «most of the publications are of a negative nature, aimed at discrediting representatives of state and municipal bodies», «Kloop.Media publications contain hidden manipulations of the opinion of the society, which are imposed negative processes that do not correspond to reality, and create opposition to any undertakings of the current government».
The prosecutor cites several headlines and materials from Kloop.kg, which, according to the oversight body, are sharply critical of the government.
The prosecutor’s office also accuses the public foundation of concealing a large amount of funds.
