Olzhobai Shakir’s case: Journalist taken into custody for two months
The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek considered a measure of restraint against a journalist Olzhobai Shakir.
According to lawyer Bakyt Avtandil, the court took the journalist into custody until October 20.
«The journalist will be kept in custody in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security. We believe that the decision of the court is unreasonable and illegal. Olzhobai Shakir himself stated in court that he did not try to overthrow the government, but only called for a peaceful rally. We will appeal the court’s decision,» Bakyt Avtandil said.
Recall, the journalist Olzhobai Shakir was detained by employees of the State Committee for National Security. He is accused of calling for active disobedience to law enforcement officers, riots and an attempt to seize power.
Earlier, Olzhobai Shakir called on citizens to hold a rally. He intended to organize a protest on August 31. The journalist said that he was against transfer of four resorts in Issyk-Kul region to Uzbekistan.
