Scientists link COVID-19 to Guillain-Barré syndrome
Scientists at the University of Birmingham have linked COVID-19 to Guillain-Barré syndrome. EurekAlert! reports.
According to them, antibodies produced by the body after COVID-19 have similar symptoms to those that cause autoimmune diseases of the heart and skin.
The results showed that the first symptoms of the disease are numbness in the feet and hands, muscle weakness and pain, as well as problems with coordination. They were identified in study participants who had mild and severe forms of COVID-19.
Guillain-Barré syndrome is an acute autoimmune inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy, manifested by flaccid paresis, sensitivity disorders, and autonomic disorders.
