Court bans rallies in Bishkek until April 22

Rallies and peaceful marches are banned in Bishkek until April 22. Lawyer Evgeniya Krapivina told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, administration of Pervomaisky district filed a lawsuit to limit holding of rallies and peaceful protests, because citizens who do not take part in the marches are concerned about their personal safety.

«As practice shows, the leaders and organizers of such gatherings with participation of a large crowd of people do not control the process, congestions, traffic jams are created, pedestrian crossings are blocked, and so on,» the court’s decision says.

A peaceful march for legality is held in Bishkek every Sunday. Activists and human rights defenders hold the rally against amendments to the Constitution. They march from the railway station along Erkindik Boulevard to the White House.

Earlier, activists announced that the next march for women’s rights is scheduled for March 8 in the capital at 13.00. Its participants were going to march along White House — Monument to Fighters of Revolution route.
