Women in Kyrgyzstan have more chances to live up to pension than men
Probability of living up to the pension age for women in Kyrgyzstan is 90 percent, for men — 70 percent. The National Statistical Committee says.
At the beginning of 2018, at least 472,100 citizens above the working age lived in Kyrgyzstan, or almost every seventh resident of the republic. The main part of the elderly are women, since their life expectancy is higher than that of men.
The gap in life expectancy is caused by the fact that the death rate of men is 1.5 times higher than that of women. Modern 60-year-old women are likely to live on average for other 20 years, men — for about 15 years.
The population of Kyrgyzstan is gradually approaching the threshold of old age: at the beginning of 2018, there were 287,700 people at the age of 65 and older, or 4.6 percent of the Kyrgyzstanis. According to the UN forecast, by 2030, the share of elderly people aged 65 and older in Kyrgyzstan will be close to 7 percent.
At the end of 2017, about 673,200 pensioners were registered by the Social Fund and other ministries and departments, including 493,500 people (73 percent). An average pension amounted to 5,578 soms.
