EEU-China cooperation agreement - just a dialogue platform
«I would call the signed agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and China a dialogue platform for overcoming non-tariff barriers,» Yuri Kofner, a researcher at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, said at a roundtable discussion today.
According to him, the document gives a general idea of those areas where the parties can cooperate. But the practical obligations are not detailed there. It just presents a mechanism.
«I expected that trade tariffs would be reduced in the agreement on cooperation with China, but this did not happen. Therefore, now I am more cautious in assessments. I would call it a dialogue platform where issues of overcoming non-tariff barriers can be discussed,» concluded Yuri Kofner.
