«The unity of the Soviet people was the decisive factor of the Victory,» the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at a meeting in honor of the 73^rd anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.

According to him, May 9, 1945 was the victory of not only of the weapons, but also of the national spirit. The Soviet people showed the world a unique example of mass heroism, a unique example of devotion to the Motherland and the Fatherland in the war. Soldiers’ courage and officer honor were valued above all.

«Our fathers sacrificed their lives in order we can live,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov. «To live in peace and freedom, to continue the history of our ancestors. We must remember the great contribution of our homefront workers, for whom the war years were a time of titanic labor and were filled with pain of loss. Their self-sacrifice — «everything for the front, everything for victory» — hastened this bright day.»

During the war years, about 500,000 people were reportedly resettled and evacuated to Kyrgyzstan. Our republic became the second homeland for them.

As noted, in our time the whole world is facing a new global threat, terrorism, which can only be countered by joint efforts. «We will fight this evil together with the international community and our long-time ally — Russia and the states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

«Today, soldiers and commanders of our army, worthy heirs of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, defend the borders of our country with honor and courage. I am confident that our Armed Forces will continue to keep their eyes on the Great Victory,» he concluded.
