Sooronbai Jeenbekov calls for remembering "first March people's revolution"
The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov congratulated the Kyrgyzstanis on the anniversary of the March 2005 events («tulip revolution»), when as the result of popular unrest, the first head of state Askar Akayev was overthrown.
According to Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the events of March 24, 2005 take a special place in the history of sovereign Kyrgyzstan.
«The freedom-loving people of Kyrgyzstan once again showed unshakable will, determination and proved that the independence of the state and justice are the highest values for them. Unfortunately, the people’s hope for fair and just governance has not been justified, the people’s revolution has not reached its goal,» the president believes.
He added: «Those events showed that the high goals of the people should be well protected.» «We must remember the first March people’s revolution — one of the brightest pages in the recent history of Kyrgyzstan. We are to learn from the Aksy events of 2002 and the people’s revolution of 2005. Thanks to the strong will of the people and the April revolution, we had a second historic chance. We are responsible for building a just and legal, free and developed state, which our ancestors and compatriots dreamed of, who gave their lives for the sake of the future of the Motherland. Power is strong only when it relies on the support of the people,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
