Deputy Minister of Energy and Director of Kyrgyzkomur detained for corruption
High-ranking officials from the energy sector were detained for corruption. Press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.
They were detained as part of a criminal case initiated against officials of the Ministry of Energy, subordinated to it Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise, branches of Issyk-Kul Shipping Company and the loading and unloading point in Balykchy, on the fact of multimillion-dollar theft of coal intended for the Heating and Power Plant (HPP) of the capital.
On June 18, the SCNS bodies detained the Deputy Minister of Energy and the Commercial Director of Kyrgyzkomur for involvement in corruption-related crimes that threaten to disrupt the work of the capital’s HPP and cause significant damage to the state budget,» statement says.
The criminal investigation continues.
It should be noted that the detainees are the Deputy General Director of Kyrgyzkomur, Sagynbek Aseyin uulu, and the Deputy Minister, Mirlan Zhakypov, who was the head of Kyrgyzkomur in 2015. According to media reports, he was dismissed from his position because of a criminal case initiated against him on charges of corruption. In July 2022, he once again became the head of Kyrgyzkomur. In 2020, Mirlan Zhakypov ran for the Parliament from Kyrgyzstan party.
