WHO chief declares end to COVID-19 as global health emergency
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the end of the COVID-19 as a global health emergency. The corresponding statement was posted on Twitter.
Tedros Ghebreyesus declared «with great hope» an end to COVID-19 as a public health emergency, stressing that it does not mean the disease is no longer a global threat.
According to him, at least 20 million people have died from the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.
He added that the efforts of doctors, governments who took tough measures, as well as ordinary people who made personal sacrifices for the sake of general safety, helped to defeat the disease. At the same time, the coronavirus still exists, infects people and causes damage. This must not be forgotten.
The WHO is also calling for conclusions to prepare humanity for new viruses and outbreaks.
