13 employees of Transport Ministry detained on suspicion of corruption
A corruption scheme that worked at Kara-Kul weight and dimensional control post in Jalal-Abad region was detected and suppressed. Press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.
«It was established that employees of the Ministry of Transport systematically extorted money from truck drivers for unhindered passage and concealment of fact of exceeding the maximum permissible weight of the transported cargo.
Depending on the category and degree of excess weight, the staff of the post received from 500 to 10,000 soms from each vehicle.
Individual employees of the Transport Control Department of the central office of the Ministry of Transport were also involved in criminal activities, who, remotely monitoring and registering the overweight of trucks, systematically received their share from the post employees for concealing violations,» the statement says.
Eight employees of Kara-Kul weight and dimensional control post, as well as senior workers, the head of the Transport Control Department, were detained on April 4 when taking another bribe of 5,000 soms from the driver of a truck. In total, 13 employees of the Ministry of Transport were detained in the case.
It is noted that the suspects attempted to bribe employees of the State Committee for National Security, asking for protection, which was also documented.
