Terrorist attack in USA: Native of Uzbekistan sentenced to life in prison
Jury sentenced Saifullo Saipov, a native of Uzbekistan, who committed a terrorist attack in New York in 2017, to life imprisonment without the right to parole. Website of the U.S. Department of Justice says.
Saifullo Saipov was found guilty. It is noted that the prosecution asked to sentence the man to death penalty, but this required a unanimous decision of all the jurors.
Saifullo Saipov moved to the U.S. after getting a Green Card in 2010. On October 31, 2017, he drove a pickup truck into pedestrians and cyclists in Lower Manhattan, New York. Eight people died, 12 more were injured.
At the trial, Saifullo Saipov stated that he had no remorse and that he wanted to kill «as many» people as possible. According to him, he planned the attack for about a year, and was inspired by ISIS videos.
