Akylbek Japarov tells what helped to avoid food shortages in EAEU
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov made a speech at an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
He noted that the abrupt pricing behavior of the market of all types of energy carriers, the rise in prices for essential food and consumer goods led to an inflation growth. In almost all EAEU countries, it exceeded 12 percent.
«At the same time, coordinated actions and timely response to risks by imposing restrictions on the export of certain groups of goods on the domestic market made it possible to eliminate a critical food shortage in the EAEU states,» Akylbek Japarov believes.
In his speech, he noted that in 2022 the countries of the EAEU and the EEC showed maximum activity, initiative and flexibility for the benefit of the development of the Union. At the same time, the head of the Cabinet is sure that in 2023 work will continue to strengthen integration ties, improve the social and economic situation in the EAEU states, as well as improve the well-being of citizens.
«The pragmatic and integration-oriented decisions adopted within the framework of the EAEU made it possible to keep the economies of our countries in a relatively stable state. Over the past year, the total GDP of the member countries remained within 99 percent compared to 2021, and the level of industrial production remained practically in the same corridor. A progressive growth in agricultural production was registered, which increased by 5 percent, the volume of construction work performed — by 5.5 percent,» he said.
Akylbek Japarov also told about the economic successes of Kyrgyzstan. He noted that at the end of 2022, the economic growth in the republic reached 7 percent, the volume of industrial production increased by 11.4 percent. Positive trends were also observed in construction, agriculture, as well as in wholesale and retail trade. The volume of mutual trade of the Kyrgyz Republic with the member states of the Union for the first 11 months of last year amounted to $4.2 billion.
In 2022, for the first time, Kyrgyzstan transferred 4 billion soms more to the EAEU general budget than it received from it.
The head of the Cabinet also told that due to the improvement of administration, last year there was a significant increase in tax and customs revenues. He added that this was achieved also thanks to the introduction of digital technologies.
