Five more housing estates planned to be supplied with gas in Bishkek

A regular meeting of the special interdepartmental commission on air pollution was held at the Bishkek City Hall. Press service of the City Hall reported.

The head of the city, Emilbek Abdykadyrov, presented action plans to address issues affecting air quality in the capital.

«Medium-term measures are those that must be completed before 2025, and long-term ones that will be implemented from 2025 to 2050,» the City Hall noted.

In 2023, It is planned to supply five residential areas with gas and introduce alternative sources of heating, including heat pumps, with switch of all municipal coal-fired boiler houses to gas and other alternative heat sources (to date, 22 coal-fired boiler houses operate in the capital. — Note of 24.kg news agency).

The issue of increasing the import of Kazakh high-calorific coal for Bishkek consumers with a restriction on burning Kara-Keche coal in the upcoming heating season was also discussed.

In order to reduce the number of private coal-heated bath houses, 12 municipal bath houses in residential areas should be built.

There are plans to start construction of a waste processing plant. It is necessary to purchase 500 units of eco-friendly public transport.

Measures have been proposed to increase the number of public transport running on environmentally friendly fuel to 1,500 units and to create a special lane for public transport and taxi service.

The commission members considered the proposal to check the transport for compliance with environmental standards, including the need for catalytic converters.

It is planned to implement an investment project for the purchase of 500 units of one-color electric taxis.

The plans include implementation of a project to landscape the city, increase park areas by 21.6 hectares and construct «green corridors» with planting of trees, develop a master plan for Bishkek and make proposals to expand the territory of the capital at the expense of Chui region.

The medium-term action plan includes the purchase of 1,000 units of ecological public transport by 2025 together with the Ministry of Finance. The issue of allocation of additional funds for the development of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure (development of the coastlines of Ala-Archa, Alamedin rivers and Big Chui Canal) is also being considered.

Issues were raised about the removal of the railway from the city, regulation of the construction of apartment buildings, maintenance of road transport hubs, expansion and opening of roads in order to reduce traffic congestion.

In addition, it was proposed to move the city markets, bus stations and public service institutions located in the central part of Bishkek, that is, in places where people and vehicles congregate, to the outskirts. In addition, the restoration of HPP-2 by the Ministry of Energy was discussed.

The Mayor Emilbek Abdykadyrov voiced all the issues that were discussed at the meeting to the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. Akylbek Japarov made his suggestions and comments.
