Uzbekistan to return Turkmen electricity to Kyrgyzstan in 2023
The Ministries of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan issued a joint statement. Its text was published on the website of the Energy Ministry of the neighboring country.
It is noted that in accordance with the protocol signed between the ministries on March 11, 2021, the parties mutually supply electricity according to the approved schedules. Taking into account low water period in the Central Asian region, in order to prevent the drawdown of the Toktogul reservoir to a critical level, electricity produced from Turkmen gas was supplied to Kyrgyzstan under the agreements between the economic entities of the parties.
«At the same time, in accordance with the agreements, electricity is transited from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan through the energy system of Uzbekistan on a contract basis. It should be noted that the economic entities of the parties signed contracts aimed at ensuring the transit of Turkmen electric energy in 2023. Cooperation between the Ministries of Energy and energy companies of the two countries is implemented on the principles of mutual respect and consistency in the mode of operation of energy systems,» the statement says.
