Ungar-Too in exchange for Orto-Tokoi water: Details of agreement with Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan transferred 35 hectares of land in Ungar-Too as compensation for the use of Orto-Tokoi reservoir. Nazirbek Borubayev, special envoy for border issues of the Cabinet of Ministers, announced this at a meeting of the Parliament.
According to the agreement, Kyrgyzstan receives 667 hectares as compensation for the land allocated for Orto-Tokoi reservoir.
«Earlier, we received 190 hectares at Asek site, in Kara-Beles — 25, in Kok-Serek — 105 hectares, in Bayastan — 212 hectares, in Ungar-Too — 35 hectares and 100 hectares in Kara-Suu district,» Nazirbek Borubaev said.
According to the head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, the area of the reservoir located in Ala-Buka district is 860 hectares. He noted that the fate of Orto-Tokoi reservoir was decided in September 2017. But this time, Uzbekistan agreed to compensate the use of the reservoir with land.
On March 26, 2021, Kamchybek Tashiev said that more than 700 hectares of land should be transferred as compensation. 200 hectares have already been transferred, 500 remained.
On October 10, Kamchybek Tashiev told deputies that more than 19,000 hectares of land remained the property of Kyrgyzstan in total.
