Law on Ombudsman needs to be changed, Edil Baisalov believes
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, took part in the international scientific-practical conference «Role of the Ombudsman in the protection of human rights.»
According to him, the Institute of Ombudsman is an effective mechanism for solving problems related to the protection of human rights and the most important tool that exists in democratic states. The most important thing in the work of the Ombudsman’s Institute is to avoid a formal attitude towards people and not turn into a «mailbox» for appeals.
«There is no doubt that the law on the Ombudsman needs to be amended to make this institution a true champion of justice and legitimate human rights,» Baisalov said.
Ombudsmen from seven countries and representatives of international donor organizations take part in the conference; it is held in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Institute of Ombudsman.
