Invasion of Kyrgyzstan: 132,000 people return to Batken region
As of October 17, at least 132,000 out of more than 136,000 residents of Batken region, evacuated during the aggression of Tajikistan at the state border, returned home. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.
According to the ministry, almost 8,000 employees of departments and 416 pieces of equipment participated in the evacuation. Of these, 557 rescuers and 95 units of equipment were from the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
«At least 292 citizens are accommodated in temporary centers: 11 people — in Osh, 11 — in Jalal-Abad region, 15 — in Issyk-Kul region, 71 — in Chui region, 164 — in Batken region. Some 4,497 residents stay in the homes of citizens,» the ministry said.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations added that 51 mobile residential buildings, 40 felt houses and 26 yurts have been installed at the request of the heads of rural administrations.
Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 206 victims, 63 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
