World Bank to help Kyrgyzstan reform power sector and fight inflation

The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund is taking place in the city of Washington (USA). The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The annual meeting is attended by the Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniyar Amangeldiev and the Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic Almaz Baketaev, as well as the adviser to the International Monetary Fund Tolkunbek Abdygulov. Meetings have already been held with the management of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, in particular with WB Vice President for Infrastructure Riccardo Puliti, WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde and with the participation of theWB Country Manager for the Kyrgyz Republic Naveed Hassan Naqvi.

«The parties discussed a wide range of issues, including prospects for cooperation in such areas as energy, transport, agribusiness, tourism and private sector development. The World Bank confirmed its support for the reform of the power sector in Kyrgyzstan, as well as assistance to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic in mitigating the consequences of the global food and energy crisis and rise in inflation,» the statement says.

The meeting of the Board of Governors of the WB and IMF group is held annually. Its participants discuss a wide range of issues related to poverty reduction, international economic development and financial performance. Annual meetings serve as a platform for international partnership and provide an opportunity to discuss the prospects for cooperation.
