World Bank ready to cooperate with Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic received a World Bank delegation led by its Managing Director of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg.

The parties exchanged views on priority areas of partnership and prospects for cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the World Bank for the coming years.

Sadyr Japarov expressed gratitude to the World Bank for supporting the development of the country’s economy, adding that the financial institution has been an important partner in all key areas of development for many years.

«Today we are on the verge of serious global changes, when it is necessary to take quick and effective measures for the development of the republic. To mitigate the negative impact of challenges and risks on Kyrgyzstan, an anti-crisis plan and a work plan of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2022 were developed,» he said, adding that a positive trend in economic growth at the level of 8 percent was observed in January-August.

The head of state focused on the fact that recent events related to the armed aggression of Tajikistan against Kyrgyzstan have resulted in destruction of civil and social infrastructure in Batken region. At present, one of the priority tasks is the integrated development of the economy of the country’s regions, especially Batken region. At the same time, the Kyrgyz Republic firmly intends to implement the Development Program of Batken region for 2021-2035, aimed at the restoration and development of the region.

Taking into account the significant experience and expert potential of the World Bank, Sadyr Japarov drew attention to such areas of cooperation as energy, including renewable energy projects, transport, agro-industrial complex, tourism and support for the private sector.

Axel van Trotsenburg noted that work is currently underway to develop a new partnership framework between the Kyrgyz Republic and the World Bank for the medium term. He assured that WB representatives are ready to work closely with the relevant state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic, and stressed the importance of developing such sectors as healthcare, education, and also paid attention to human rights issues.

At the meeting, agreements were signed on projects in the fields of energy and social development. From the Kyrgyz side, the document was signed by the Minister of Finance Almaz Baketaev, from the World Bank — by the Regional Director for Central Asia Tatiana Proskuryakova
