Invasion of Kyrgyzstan: OSCE Chairman was informed about situation at border

Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev met with OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Affairs Minister of Poland Zbigniew Rau in New York. Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

According to it, the talks took place on Friday as part of the participation of the parties in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. Jeenbek Kulubaev informed about the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border and stressed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to de-escalation and an unchanging position on the need to resolve disputes between countries exclusively through political and diplomatic means.

The parties touched upon issues of interaction both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the OSCE. They also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, as well as a schedule for organizing mutual visits at various levels.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 62 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
