Invasion of Kyrgyzstan: Residents of border areas of Batken returning home
Residents of the border areas of Batken region, who suffered during the conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, are returning to their homes. The Deputy Head of the Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Nurlan Ismailov, told at a briefing.
According to him, the situation in the region is stable. The commissions continue to inspect the damaged buildings.
«People are returning to their homes. But we would like to warn that sappers are still neutralizing the unexploded shells. Citizens who see such ammunition in their yard, garden or other place, please contact the relevant authorities. You should not touch them. For security reasons, we ask citizens not to interfere with the commission, which carries out an inspection, to stay in the evacuation zones,» Nurlan Ismailov said.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
