The independence of the Kyrgyz Republic was proclaimed on August 31, 1991 at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council. The Declaration of Independence — a document declaring Kyrgyzstan a sovereign democratic state — was adopted on this day. This year Kyrgyzstan will celebrate its 31st anniversary of independence.
The City Hall of the capital plans a number of events for August 30 and August 31.
