A record number of labor migrants has entered Russia in the second quarter of 2022 — 3.12 million people. The analytical service of FinExpertiza audit and consulting network provides such data.

«In the second quarter of 2022, about 4.16 million foreigners registered at their place of residence, while 3.12 million people (75 percent) indicated work as the purpose of their arrival. This is a record high quarterly figure for the entire period of available statistics since 2017,» the statement says.

The number of labor migrants in the «sanctioned» second quarter of 2022 turned out to be one third more than a year earlier — only 2.34 million foreigners came to Russia to work for the same period in 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, the number of foreign workers who entered the country was 2.76 million.

This year’s figure is twice the pre-pandemic values.

Half of all labor migrants (1.54 million or 49.6 percent) were the citizens of Uzbekistan. About a third were the natives of Tajikistan (52,000 people, or 30.5 percent).

At least 223,400 citizens of Kyrgyzstan arrived in Russia to work, followed by citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Ukraine (excluding the DPR and LPR), as well as Moldova.

Natives of other countries accounted for 1.7 percent, or 54,200 people.

The influx of labor migrants from Uzbekistan grew especially noticeably in the second quarter (by 416,200 people, or by 36.9 percent). Migrants from Tajikistan are practically not inferior to them in number and are even ahead in growth rate (by 406,900 people, or 74.6 percent more). The number of arrivals from Azerbaijan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Thailand, as well as the United Arab Emirates has also increased.
