Case against Kamil Ruziev: Public prosecutor asks for five years in prison
Hearings of the case on forgery, the defendant in which is human rights activist Kamil Ruziev, continue in the court of Karakol city. He is charged with forgery of documents.
The human rights activist does not admit guilt and believes that the materials of the case were fabricated. His lawyers added that the prosecution did not provide a single weighty evidence.
The judge promises to deliver a verdict on August 14. As the defendant’s lawyers told 24.kg news agency, the prosecutor asked to sentence the human rights activist to five years in prison, noting that Kamil Ruziev would then be granted an amnesty. Lawyers representing the interests of the accused demanded to fully acquit him due to the lack of corpus delicti.
Lawyers noted that the court did not take into account the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Committee. The conclusion says that all charges against Kamil Ruziev should be dropped and the criminal prosecution stopped. It also states that his testimony was obtained under torture. However, the prosecutor stated that Kyrgyzstan is not Afghanistan and people are not tortured here.
Employees of the State Committee for National Security detained the human rights activist on May 30, 2020 in Karakol. The court placed him under house arrest.
