Climate change: Switzerland allocates $2,2 million to support rural communities
The Swiss Ambassador Olivier Bangerter and the Country Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) Kojiro Nakai have signed an agreement on the Swiss contribution to the WFP Country Strategic Plan 2018-2022. The diplomatic mission of Switzerland in Kyrgyzstan reported.
The Swiss Government will allocate $2.2 million for a component of the plan to improve resilience of the most vulnerable rural communities to climate change and natural disaster risks.
This component is being implemented by WFP in partnership with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Beneficiaries will be provided with reliable and timely climate information and support.
«Vulnerable communities will be provided with insurance tools to ensure food and livestock security, as well as trained in the most effective measures to increase their preparedness for disasters and crises,» the Embassy noted.
Implementation of the initiative is planned for one year.
