An ammonia leak occurred at Shin-Line ice cream factory in Almaty. Kazakh media report.
According to them, four workers of the plant are in serious condition. Bauyrzhan Omarov, head of the admission department of the Emergency Hospital, said that a therapist, toxicologist and resuscitator examined those delivered from the enterprise.
When the leak occurred, the staff immediately left the premises. But after some time, six workers complained of feeling unwell and turned to doctors with dizziness, nausea and weakness. Several people are in intensive care unit in critical condition.
The factory operates in three shifts. Approximately 60 tons of ice cream are produced there per day. After the emergency, the entire batch of ice cream was handed over for examination. The company launched an internal investigation. The police are investigating the details of the incident. Violations of labor protection rules may be fined.
«Our enterprise is a hazardous facility, because we use ammonia to produce cold. Material assistance will be provided to all employees who have suffered,» said Vladimir Pak, General Director of Shin-Line LLP.
Initially, the enterprise for the production of ice cream was opened in Bishkek as a small family firm. It was founded by Andrey Shin. The name of the company comes from his last name. The enterprise actively developed in Kazakhstan, when a full-fledged ice cream factory was built there in 2004.
