State Duma does not rule out deployment of CSTO forces in Ukraine
Russia does not rule out the possibility of deploying peacekeepers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the controlled by Russia territory of Ukraine. The Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov said.
According to him, «it cannot be ruled out that peacekeepers from CSTO countries may be needed in the liberated territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.»
«As long as the special military operation continues, no peacekeepers will appear there, and it will continue until all tasks are solved, but different options are possible during the post-conflict stage of regulation. It is possible that CSTO peacekeepers will be needed,» Andrei Kartapolov said.
The situation in Ukraine remains difficult. Fighting continues. Russia announced a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many states have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions against Russia.
Territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions (Luhansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic), as well as parts of Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, have come under Russian military control.
