According to them, he clinched a deal to buy Twitter Inc. for $44 billion on Monday in a transaction that will shift control of the social media platform populated by millions of users and global leaders to the world’s richest person.
«Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,» Musk said in a statement.
After closure of the deal, Twitter will become a private company, the social media said in a statement.
The billionaire began buying Twitter shares in early 2022.
After he publicly stated that he wanted to buy the social media, Twitter took actions to block him from continuing to buy shares.
