Department of Medicines: No shortage of drugs in Kyrgyzstan
There is no shortage of medicines in Kyrgyzstan. Isabek Ismailov, head of the pharmaceutical activities of the Department of Medicines and Medical Devices under the Ministry of Health, told at a press conference.
According to him, there were minor supply disruptions due to the situation in Ukraine. «Our pharmaceutical companies, colleagues have found alternative suppliers from Russia, Turkey, there are no failures now. There is no shortage,» he said.
Kanat Bekboev, deputy director of the Department of Medicines and Medical Products under the Ministry of Health, added that only three percent of medicines and medical products of the total market are produced in Kyrgyzstan.
«Drugs are imported from more than 30 countries. Last year we imported drugs and medical products for 19 billion soms. The main suppliers were Russia (15 percent of the total market), India (12 percent), Germany (11 percent), Turkey. This year, Turkey is the leader in terms of volume, Russia takes the second place and India — the third,» he said.
Kanat Bekboev added that narcotic and psychotropic drugs were imported from Ukraine, and there were problems with their supply. «But after the inclusion of certain drugs in the list of medicines, import of which allowed without registration, pharmaceutical companies imported narcotic drugs (morphine), negotiations with other countries over alternative supplies are ongoing,» he said.
