Over 17,000 residents of Leilek left their homes at night due to border incident

Fleeing from the shelling by the Tajik military, more than 17,000 residents of Leilek district evacuated on their own at night. Maksatai Karimberdieva, deputy head of the district, told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, temporary refugees were accommodated in kindergartens, schools and houses of local residents of other villages.

«Several people felt unwell at the places of evacuation, an ambulance provided them with medical assistance. Doctors monitor the health of residents,» she said.

The official noted that some of the temporary refugees began to return home today.

Another shootout occurred at night on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. The border guards of the Republic of Tajikistan opened fire on the servicemen of the Kyrgyz Republic at about 9.17 p.m. during a meeting of border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, who arrived at the scene of the incident as a reinforcement. After midnight, the parties agreed to withdraw additional forces to the points of their permanent deployment.
