More than 4.5 million people have left Ukraine since February 24. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reported.
«In the first five weeks, more than 4 million refugees from Ukraine crossed the border with neighboring countries, and many more were forced to move inside the country. They need protection and support,» the report says.
As of April 9, the largest number of refugees — approximately 2.6 million people — crossed the border with Poland. Some 686,000 Ukrainians went to Romania, 419,000 — to Hungary. Refugees also left for Moldova (410,000), Russia (404,000) and Slovakia (314,000).
The situation in Ukraine remains difficult. The fighting continues. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of casualties among the military and civilians continues to grow. Many countries have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions against the Russian Federation.
