Saudi Arabia lifts restrictions on hajj for the first time in three years
Saudi Arabia allowed foreigners to perform the hajj. Restrictions for foreigners have been lifted for the first time in three years. Saudi Press Agency reported, citing the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
One million people will be able to visit Mecca this year. Saudi Arabia has increased the allowable number of pilgrims for the hajj, including both citizens of the Kingdom and foreigners.
According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca this year will be allowed for fully vaccinated people under 65. Pilgrims will also be required to present a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 upon arrival.
On February 3, Saudi Arabia confirmed its intention to hold the hajj in 2022. The format of preparation for it is determined by the Saudi side in accordance with the epidemiological situation that has developed, including in those countries where the pilgrims come from.
