Authorized capital of banks could be increased up to 1 billion soms
The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan is considering the issue of a gradual enlargement of the requirements for the minimum amount of authorized and own (regulatory) capital for newly created and operating banks, including the requirement for the capital of branches of foreign banks. This is done to strengthen the stability, security and reliability of the banking system, increase the flexibility and ability of the banking system to withstand external shocks in different economic situations.
The preliminary quantitative benchmark of the new requirements of the National Bank for the minimum amount of authorized and own (regulatory) capital is 1 billion soms.
For systemically important banks, the size of the required capital will be higher.
«The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic notes the importance of timely assessment of the future capital needs of banks, taking into account the exposure of their activities to risks, including credit risk in the current situation. Capital, including retained earnings, may be required by banks in the future to meet the requirements for authorized capital established by the National Bank,» the statement says.
It should be noted that the minimum authorized capital of the banks is 600 million soms now.
