Russian businessman Leonid Maevsky sentenced to 11 years in prison
The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced ex-deputy of the State Duma from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and a former shareholder of Rostov Unitile Holding (one of the largest Russian manufacturers of ceramic tiles) Leonid Maevsky to 11 years in a maximum security prison. Kommersant reports.
He was found guilty of extorting $37.5 million from the shareholders of Alfa Group and A1 company Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven, as well as German Khan, who recently withdrew from the group of owners of Alfa Bank. Lawyer Vladimir Afonkin, who assisted Maevsky, and Maxim Bukin, a former press secretary of the Unitile Holding, were sentenced to ten years in prison each.
The Russian businessman Leonid Maevsky is known in Kyrgyzstan for accusing politician Omurbek Tekebayev of allegedly taking $1 million, which he did not return, from him for admission to the management of Alfa Telecom company.
