Aksakals of Batken and Sogd meet at Kyrgyz-Tajik border
Aksakals (the elders) of the Kyrgyz villages of Samarkandek, Pasky-Aryk and the Tajik villages of Chorku and Ferdavsi took place in the border district of Batken region. The Department of Internal Affairs of the region reported.
According to them, 150 people attended the meeting.
«The purpose of the meeting was to call for the restoration of relations between the residents of the border areas of the two countries, to conduct explanatory work among young people on the non-proliferation of provocative materials and prevention of conflicts at the border,» the Internal Affairs Department explained.
The elders agreed to hold joint sports events.
Prior to this, at the initiative of the police of Batken and Isfara, there was another meeting of the elders of the villages of Kok-Tash, Ak-Sai, Tash-Tumshuk of Batken region and Somanen, Maisky of Sughd region.
