Scientists from China find way to detect COVID-19 in less than four minutes
Scientists at Fudan University have found a way to detect COVID-19 in less than four minutes. An article published in the scientific journal Nature Biomedical Engineering says.
A team of researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai has developed a technology that can detect COVID-19 in less than four minutes with the accuracy of a PCR test.
«We imbedded an electromechanical biosensor to detect SARS-CoV-2 in an integrated handheld device and showed that it detects the RNA virus in less than four minutes in samples taken from the nasopharynx,» the article says.
Scientists told the new technology uses microscopic mechanical components that, combined with microelectronics, can convert mechanical, chemical, biological or other sensory responses into electrical signals. The device can be connected to a computer or smartphone.
The trial was conducted on 33 patients previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and 54 healthy patients. The results of testing with the help of new device were fully consistent with the results obtained by PCR testing.
The new device can be used in airports, clinics, emergency departments and even at home.
