Situation at border: Villagers return to their homes in Batken
Evacuated residents of villages are returning to their homes. The Deputy Presidential Envoy to the region Marufkhan Tulaev told 24.kg news agency.
According to him, electricity supply has been restored in all villages of Batken region.
«The situation is stable; residents are returning home. Local authorities and the Ministry of Emergency Situations organized transport for them,» Marufkhan Tulaev told.
According to him, one house and the roof of another house burned down as a result of yesterday’s shooting.
«Residents of the burnt house will be temporarily accommodated in another place until their housing is restored. The damage is still being specified,» the Deputy Presidential Envoy said.
The day before, at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.
At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
