SCNS Chairman about border conflict: Kyrgyzstan has good technical support
Negotiations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan over the conflict on the border ended in Batken region. Commenting on their results on Facebook, the head of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, said that the Kyrgyz Republic had good technical support in this incident.
«Last year, when there was a conflict on the border, we did not have much capabilities. Then we had only one armored car. In this conflict, we had good support. Forty armored vehicles, brought following instructions of the president, took out the wounded, ordinary citizens from the incident zone. Therefore, there were few victims this time,» he said.
Another border incident occurred on April 28, 2021 after the Tajik side began to install video surveillance cameras on an electric pole near Golovnoi water distribution point in Kok-Tash village, Batken district. Local residents demanded to remove the equipment. The verbal skirmish developed into a brawl: the parties began to throw stones at each other. Then the shooting started.
Then, as a result of an armed clash, 154 people were injured, 36 were killed, including two children in Kyrgyzstan. Tajik authorities officially announced 19 dead and 87 wounded.
The day before, at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.
At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
