Events in Kazakhstan: Prayer for peace read in all mosques of Kyrgyzstan
Prayers were read in all mosques of Kyrgyzstan for the speedy restoration of peace and stability in Kazakhstan. Press service of the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (SDMK) reported.
According to it, the head of SDMK Zamir Rakiev addressed the people. He called on believers to pray for the brotherly Kazakh people. The country’s chief mufti wished wisdom and patience to the people of Kazakhstan.
On January 7, the President of Kazakhstan addressed the people. He made a number of harsh statements. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered the security forces to shoot to kill without warning. He called the protesters bandits, terrorists, and murderers, accused «would-be activists», journalists and media of incitement. He promised to turn on the Internet, but warned that free net access does not mean free publication of fabrications.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in the early days of 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The Internet is periodically turned off throughout the country, the media practically do not work.
The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
