At least 3,859 families live in hazard-prone areas in Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported with reference to the minister Boobek Azhikeev.
The head of the ministry noted that Kyrgyzstan, as a mountainous republic, is one of the countries where natural disasters often occur — landslides, avalanches, earthquakes.
«The ministry has identified areas that are dangerous for living and issued a corresponding conclusion. To date, 3,859 families have been issued resettlement orders. At least 2,488 families of them were allocated money and land for resettlement. Despite this, citizens continue to live in hazard-prone areas, explaining this by their unwillingness to leave the lands of their ancestors,» Boobek Azhikeev noted.
He added that starting from the new year, ministry employees will begin to visit dangerous areas and conduct explanatory conversations with the local population about the need for resettlement.
