Art from apparel production waste: Ecokurak exhibition opens in Bishkek
Ecokurak exhibition was opened in the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts in Bishkek.
It presents the results of work of participants of the author’s project of a professional artist and founder of Kurak school of applied art Cholpon Alamanova.
About 200 women from 25 to 70 years old participated in the project.
For five and a half months the participants processed 300 kilograms of recyclable materials and learned how to use the waste of sewing workshops. Interior items, clothes and souvenirs were made using the ancient technique of patchwork sewing kurak.
The results of the project are a real contribution of the craftswomen to improving the environment, preservation and popularization of cultural heritage and finding an additional source of income.
The exhibition will run until December 29.
