Kyrgyzstan intends to transfer convicted in Europe citizens to homeland
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan is considering the issue of transfer of Kyrgyzstanis convicted in European countries to their homeland. The state body reported.
According to it, an appeal was sent to the Council of Europe to consider the issue of Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the 1983 European Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
Negotiations and consultations between the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Secretariat of the Council of Europe on the possibilities of consideration of the initiative began in 2019.
If Kyrgyzstan joins the convention, Kyrgyzstanis serving sentences in correctional institutions in European countries will have the opportunity to be transferred to their homeland.
