15,000 arrested awaiting review of criminal cases in Kyrgyzstan
About 15,000 arrested, among whom are convicts, as well as those who are kept in a pretrial detention center, are awaiting a review of their criminal cases in connection with the entry into force of the new versions of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. The State Penitentiary Service informed 24.kg news agency.
According to the service, the materials on all convicts and detainees, who are under the jurisdiction of the State Penitentiary Service, were sent to the court for revision.
It is clarified that some persons under investigation will be sentenced not to a term in prison, but will be granted an opportunity to improve within the framework of the probation institute.
Earlier it was reported that 460 convicts could count on change of the conditions and term of imprisonment.
