300,000 new TB patients registered annually in Central Asia
At least 300,000 new tuberculosis patients are registered annually in Central Asia. Head of WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan, Nazira Artykova, told today at a press conference in 24.kg news agency.
According to her, more than 300,000 new TB patients are registered annually in the Central Asian region. Every tenth of them dies, if treatment does not begin in due time.
«The majority of patients suffering from tuberculosis are people with HIV and hepatitis. In such cases, the risk of tuberculosis increases 40 times. Great results have been achieved in the republic thanks to new methods of treatment. Three successes have been achieved — a national plan for the transition to treatment has been developed. Not all countries can allocate money for drugs, like Kyrgyzstan, many depend on donors. New diagnostic methods were introduced in the Kyrgyz Republic. There is no such achievement even in Kazakhstan. Specialists from Kazakhstan plan to undergo training in Kyrgyzstan,» Nazira Artykova told.
